Alongside Brendan Shanahan and Keith Pelley, the President of Hockey Operations and CEO of the Leafs, Treliving faced the media after another disappointing playoff elimination in the first round.
Even if they had to compete without star players Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Joseph Woll at some point in the series, Treliving doesn't consider this as an excuse.
He believes that the Leafs will win by making the small things, which aren't skills related:

Doing the small things such as blocking more shots, being more efficient in reading the game, or even bringing an increased physical presence goes a long way in the playoffs.
The Leafs had many very talented players in the lineup. Even if some of them missed games, they couldn't win the series by themselves. Matthews played well before he got sick, and Nylander took charge when he returned; playing a big role to force the seventh game.
Not many other players upped their game when needed. Matthew Knies played well, Joel Edmundson wasn't bad, but most of the lineup didn't reach the next level.
With Treliving looking to make moves in the offseason and the hiring of a new coach, the Leafs could be in a great position to be fierce competitors next season. We'll just have to see if it shows in the playoffs.
