The Toronto Maple Leafs have not started regular season play and already they are facing questions about two incidents involving William Nylander. The first incident came last week when William Nylander appeared on TSN's Bardown trivia show. William Nylander was asked to identify goal horns and when given the clue you hear this one the most guessed the Boston Bruins.
While this was an honest mistake fans were still frustrated that a Maple Leafs player would admit to another team dominating them. At the time, this was an isolated incident and not a big deal overall. However, this afternoon a new clip has surfaced where William Nylander once again accidentally let it slip how much the Maple Leafs fear the Boston Bruins.
Over the last weeks clips from episodes of Amazon's FACEOFF: Inside the NHL series. Today a clip has emerged of William Nylander having lunch with Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak. During their conversation, David Pastrnak says that the Toronto and Boston rivalry is always fun. William Nylander replied by saying the reason it is so fun for Boston is because the Maple Leafs are incapable of winning.
Of course, this generally has been the case but in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs the Maple Leafs had the Bruins on the ropes. After an injury to Joseph Woll the Maple Leafs ended up losing that first-round series in seven games.
With the NHL season just days away the Toronto Maple Leafs will need to find a way to bring their confidence up against the Boston Bruins. If they continue to doubt themselves then the Maple Leafs could be in for another early Stanley Cup Playoff exit.
