The Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin explained in a press conference the reasons why he didn't sign the veteran free agent and NHL legend Phil Kessel.

Before the trade deadline, all eyes were on Phil Kessel, as he was openly looking to join a team for the playoffs. In fact, he was even training in Abbotsford, at the Canucks' AHL affiliate facilities, which led to many rumors about him signing in Vancouver.

Allvin finally shed light on why he didn't sign Phil Kessel at the deadline.

He started by mentioning that Kessel wanted to come back to play, but with the many moves made by the GM, it wasn't a fit for the organization.

"I think Phil is a great person and a well-respected player. What he has done in the league, a three-time Cup winner, he wanted to come back to play."

"With being in LTIR and roster complications and how we want to play, unfortunately, at this point it wasn't a fit for us."

Kessel, 36, could've played an important role with a team during the playoffs, but unfortunately, didn't convince Allvin to try his luck with him.

He always performed will in the playoffs during his career. In 100 games, he has 83 points, including 34 goals.

We can expect a major announcement from him this summer, but we don't know yet if it'll be to reveal a new contract or his retirement.
