On Monday night, tempers ran very high in a game between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals after Tom Wilson had what many deemed suspension worthy acts on both Pavel Buchnevich and Artemi Panarin during a scrum in the second period.
As we know now, Wilson was not suspended, which in turn caused the Rangers to release a team statement that has resulted in plenty of controversy on its own. While the Caps winger stayed quiet on the matter through the week, he spoke with Washington media about it this morning.
«Nothing I say right now is going to change anyone's opinion,» Wilson said. «It was a crazy moment but one that's not rare to happen in a hockey game. I'm trying to move on from it.»
The 27-year-old also said he considered the event a routine scrum and was not expecting a surprise. One of the main controversies regarding his role in the scrum was that shortly after the game it was announced Panarin had suffered an injury as a result of Wilson and would be out for the remainder of the season. Wilson told media that he has since spoken to the Rangers superstar and that he is doing better. While this won't change anyone's thoughts on him, it's interesting to hear his perspective on the matter.
