Over the past few days, the NHL has been noticing a pattern of players being placed on leave, and when news broke of an update in the Hockey Canada saga, the dots were connected easily.
Five players on leave from their current NHL teams
While it's no guarantee that all four of these players are the ones named in the Hockey Canada case, it is intriguing timing to be sure, and now, fans are wondering just what is happening with those players.
Now on social media, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has revealed just how they are being handled while absent from their teams;
Subject to change, but my understanding of the current situation for the 4 #NHL players who have taken leave of absence:
- Will continue to be paid.
- Continue to count against the salary cap.
- Do not count against the roster limit (e.g. non-roster status).
As Seravalli notes, things are subject to change, and if these are the four players involved in the incident that occurred back in 2018, it's safe to say that those things will change very quickly.
Right now, there's plenty of room for speculation surrounding these players, but it's best to play it safe and wait until official news comes out, but for now, this is the way that Gary Bettman and the NHL are handling this delicate situation.
