The New York Rangers and Washington Capitals have officially started their first-round playoff series for this season, but not without an intense scene all started by Trevor Van Riemsdyk.

The New York Rangers have had massive success this season, gaining enough points in the regular season to earn the President's trophy. Alternatively, the Capitals have been one of the worst-performing teams to make the playoffs in the last few decades.

Given this juxtaposition, it is unsurprising that Washington would attempt to pull any stunt they could to catch a leg-up on the other team. However, it came as a shock to many fans that one of their first attempts at this would come from a single Capitals player by the name of Trevor Van Riemsdyk, who appeared to try picking a fight with the entire opposing team just after the end of the second period.

"Caps players had to come back onto the ice because Trevor Van Riemsdyk was getting into it with the entire Rangers team 😳"

Soon after he first approached, the Rangers fully surrounded him. This prompted his teammate Tom Wilson to join him with other Capitals players in what could have been a massive brawl.

"Trevor van Riemsdyk approached the Rangers as they were leaving the ice and got himself surrounded. A few Caps came back out after leaving the ice. We were real close to this thing exploding between then 2nd and 3rd periods.
@NYRangers @Capitals"

This was eventually broken up by NHL officials on the ice after New York Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe put his arm around Riemsdyk, likely in response to his earlier hit that resulted in a penalty during his first shift in the NHL playoffs.

"Rempe puts his arm around Trevor van Riemsdyk and is instantaneously swarmed by referees and Wilson.

Hilarious. #NYR"

The New York Rangers are currently leading against the Washington Capitals 3-1 with less than six minutes in the final period. This will likely result in the first of four wins they would need to qualify for the next round.
