A scary incident happened in this hockey league that has left one player out for the remainder of the season due to a severe cut from a skate blade.

Skate Blade Laceration Ends Player's Season in SHL

It feels like it is happening more and more, or at least after the tragedy earlier this year, we are noticing it more. Players getting cut from skate blades is a dangerous thing, and it sadly happened again recently in the Swedish Hockey League.

Sebastian Hartmann, who plays for Timra of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) was playing a game when he was cut by a skate blade from an opponent on Vaxjo. During the play, a Vaxjo player skated over his leg, leaving a deep cut in his calf.

The team gave the following update on Hartmann.

"Sebastian Hartmann was accidentally hit on the calf by a skate blade. He is in good spirits and doing well but will require surgery. His rehabilitation extends beyond the remainder of the season."

Cooper, the other player involved in the incident, made comments on what happened as well.

"It was a little bit of a relief. I felt terrible, because you don't want to hurt anyone. But I'm glad he seems to be okay."

More Players Wearing Increased Protection at All Levels

The scary events have led more players to wear protective gear at nearly all levels, and some leagues even require them where they didn't before. It brings up another serious conversation as to whether protective gear like cut-proof base layers and neck guards should be mandatory.

Luckily, in the end, Hartmann is doing well. We wish him the best in his recovery.
