According to TVA Nouvelles, the Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ) was called to the Sainte-Foy sports complex at around 9:25 a.m. on Sunday morning following reports of an adult physically assaulting a youth.
Witnesses who were present at the game reported that the referee deliberately elbowed the young player in the abdomen, causing a significant reaction from the spectators. Other witnesses stated that the blow appeared to be given without reason and was not intended to end a skirmish.
The victim was a 10-year-old Atom age player who was participating in the game refereed by the suspect.
It's important to take all allegations of physical assault seriously and investigate them thoroughly. While the referee is presumed innocent until proven guilty, it's essential that appropriate legal action is taken if the allegations are found to be true.
The safety and well-being of children participating in sports should always be a top priority. The hockey community must take a strong stance against any form of violence or abuse and work together to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
Our thoughts are with the young victim and their family, and we hope they receive the necessary support and care to recover from this traumatic experience.
