We're not even 24 hours removed from the New York Rangers being ousted from the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs by the New Jersey Devils, and rumours are already rampant that coach Gerard Gallant may be on his way out. Not only that, but there is speculation from insiders that his replacement could be a very well-known colleague who left the NHL in a controversial fashion.

Both TSN's Darren Dreger and ESPN's Greg Wyshynski state that Gallant's replacement could be none other than Joel Quenneville, who won three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks from 2010 to 2015. However, before he can be even interviewed by the team Dreger stated Quenneville would need to be reinstated by the league, although he believes Quenneville's reinstatement is a "strong possibility."

Quenneville was fired by the Blackhawks in 2018. A few month later, he was hired by the Florida Panthers. He resigned from the post with FLorida in 2021 after a meeting with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman regarding the Kyle Beach incident in Chicago in 2010. Bettman stated at that time that Quenneville would have to meet with him again to be reinstated before he could come back as a coach in the NHL.
