According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman in his latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Montreal Canadiens VP of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton wanted to hire his former Rangers head coach David Quinn.
In the end, Quinn got the head coaching job with the San Jose Sharks and that's why Stéphane Robidas was hired by the Canadiens.
However, many experts believe that Robidas is an excellent choice, considering his experience on the ice, but also behind the bench and with the Maple Leafs, when he was director of player development.
