A new Leafs franchise record set by.. Tuukka Rask??
This is a wild story, but the now retired Tuukka Rask has set the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise record for most wins by a goaltender who was drafted by the Leafs. The previous record-holder was longtime Leafs goalie Felix Potvin.
Rask had accumulated 308 career NHL wins over a 564-game NHL career to Potvin's 266 wins. You'd think that the Leafs would have had some goalies higher up on the list, but due to the fact that most of the big names who have come through Toronto were not drafted by the organization, they don't factor in here.
Rask was traded to the Bruins back in the summer of 2006 because the Leafs had assumed that 2005 first-rounder Justin Pogge was expected to be the next franchise goalie in Toronto. However, that did not work out as planned and the Leafs ended up gifting Rask to the Bruins in exchange for Andrew Raycroft, who played just 91 games for the Leafs.
