When you think of the greatest hockey player of all time, Wayne Gretzky is definitely in the discussion. The Wonder holds records that will likely never be matched, including one that was in jeopardy Tuesday night.
Of course, the only active player with a real chance of surpassing Wayne's 894 NHL goals is Alexander Ovechkin. The Capitals were in action Tuesday night in Vancouver and he scored two goals, bringing his total to 793.
He's still 102 goals short of the all-time record, but another mark Gretzky accomplished was within reach of the Caps captain, and that's the number of goals on opposing ice.
Ovechkin is now up to 403 away goals, holding the all-time record for goals scored on opposing ice.
With three and a half seasons left on his contract, the Russian should be able to reach 895 NHL goals if he stays healthy. We are witnessing something incredible.
