Barry Trotz Could Take Over As Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs
The discontent between the Maple Leafs fan-base and head coach Sheldon Keefe has grown. After some embarrassing losses, including against Montreal and Arizona, it seems time may be up for the coach.
In an interview with the Cam and Strick podcast, legendary coach Barry Trotz expressed interest in coaching an Original Six team.
I've never coached an original six team, that would intrigue me.
Trotz opted not to coach this season, as his options were quite limited, but the opportunity to coach an original six team might take him out of retirement. The Maple Leafs are the only original six team that might be on the prowl for a head coach, thus the links are obvious.
This hiring would be a reunion between Trotz and star player John Tavares, and he could be the missing piece for a deep playoff run. Trotz brought the Islanders to two straight Eastern Conference Finals.
