The general manager will have a slew of important, if not difficult, decisions to make to ensure the CH's well being in the years to come. These decisions are directly linked to the Seattle Kraken expansion draft that will take place on July 21.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the NHL general managers will meet with each other on Monday, July 12 to discuss the rules and procedures of the expansion.
Remember that teams will have to choose which type of protection list they will use for the expansion. Organizations will either choose the option of seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie. Alternatively, they can steer their ship towards the option of eight skaters and one goalie.
The Bettman Circuit's team owners will also have until 5 p.m. on July 17 to submit their protection lists to the NHL. After that deadline, Ron Francis will be able to mold his team with the players that teams make available. Perhaps some teams will even make trades with the Kraken in order to keep players they value.
It will all happen very quickly, so we will know very soon who will be the CH player selected by the Seattle Kraken. Jake Allen? Ben Chiarot? It's all a mystery right now...
