Breaking: OHL Teams Under Investigation For Accepting Bribes
Hockey parents are known for their unwavering loyalty and dedication, supporting their children's dreams through weekend tournaments and early morning practices. However, it seems that some parents may have taken their support too far.
OHL Teams Under Investigation For Corruption
Ontario Hockey League Commissioner David Branch confirmed that the league hired a private investigator to examine recent allegations of parents paying bribes to secure their children's selection in the draft.
OHL Commissioner David Branch confirms league hired an investigator to probe allegations that several hockey parents paid for their sons to be selected in the 2022 OHL draft. Three GTHL coaches have told me they have evidence (text messages) of parents paying $30K+.
Despite these allegations, Branch stated that the league could not find or substantiate any of the claims. Instances of parents offering financial incentives for their children's selection are not unheard of, with stories of sponsor's children making teams after donations of new jerseys, for example.
Nonetheless, if the investigation eventually uncovers evidence of such payments being accepted, it could have severe repercussions for the league and the teams involved. Moreover, the exposure of such practices could discourage young players from competing if they believe their hockey careers could be jeopardized by other families' willingness to make financial contributions to teams.
