Canadiens defenseman Chris Wideman was back in the lineup tonight and recorded three points in the Canadiens 7-4 win over the New Jersey Devils. The 32-year-old has 25 points this season in 56 games.
Beyond the excellent performance, Wideman caused a stir with his post-game comments.
"I will never accept seeing Caufield and Suzuki get in trouble or seeing them get shuffled around on the ice. I'll never hesitate to jump in when needed, they're too important to our team. Because that's what's important, our team." - Chris Wideman, who (remember) is the one who got into a fight with Mark Scheifele earlier this season. He later mentioned this:
"I am so lucky and blessed to be here. Last season, I had to pay for my sticks." - Wideman, who says he obviously wants to play every game, but fully understands the coach's decisions. He wants what's best for his teammates and for his team.
Martin St. Louis was very happy with his performance:
"On a team, you need guys who play more for the logo up front than the name back. Wideman is like that and that's part of why the guys love him in the locker room." - Martin St. Louis
