Claude Giroux is in the final year of an eight-year, $66.2 million deal. And, according to insider Pierre LeBrun, he is delaying talk to management about a contract extension.

«What they've agreed to is that he's entering the final year of his deal, as we've just mentioned, time flies, his eight-year contract that he signed in July of 2013 expires at the end of the season at which point he'll be a UFA. Claude Giroux, his agent Pat Brisson, and the Philadelphia Flyers mutually agreed at an off-season discussion that they would not look to extend right now, that they would all play out the year and see how they all feel, how the team feels, how he feels, the Flyers captain, before making those decisions.»

In his recent 32 Thoughts piece on Sportsnet, Elliotte Friedman said:

«Hall of Famer Al Morganti stirred up something last week when he suggested unsigned Flyer Claude Giroux would be happy to play in the Canadian capital. For what it's worth, there were rumours about the two teams talking last summer, but I looked into it and got multiple denials. We will see what the future holds.»

A transfer would be considered by GM Pierre Dorion, according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun. This sparked trade rumours about Erik Brannstrom. He may be on the move, but the Flyers may not want him as part of a trade for their captain. Brannstrom, Friedman:

«The next item of business for Ottawa is Erik Brannstrom. You can read the tea leaves, it will be tough for him to find a consistent spot. But the Senators do recognize his talent, and they will ask real value from teams calling about him.»
