In the most recent expansion draft, the Montreal Canadiens did not protect young defenseman Cale Fleury and the Seattle Kraken wasted no time in claiming him.
Without a contract for a month, Fleury finally agreed to terms on a one-season, two-way deal with Seattle. The deal will pay him $750,000 if he plays in the NHL.
A third-round pick of the Canadiens in 2017, the brother of defenseman Haydn Fleury played 41 games with the Montreal Canadiens in 2019-2020.
Last season, in 58 games, the 23-year-old defenseman had seven goals and 33 points with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. He was blanked in nine games with the Kraken.
