NHL player salaries are readily available, but referees and linesmen are a different story.
How much do they earn during the season and the playoffs?
We now finally have the intriguing answer, as reported by scoutingtherefs.com.
NHL officials get bonuses during the playoffs, not a fixed salary.
In short, referees earn $27,000 per round and linesmen earn $17,250 per round, whether it's four or seven games.
During the regular season, we are talking about $4,000 and $5,000 per game for referees.
The base salary for a head referee is just over $200,000 and $137,000 for linesmen.
With 15 years of experience, a referee earns about $430,000, compared to $228,000 for a linesman.
