Evander Kane brought up his former team, the San Jose Sharks and said he was shocked when they terminated his contract saying that caught him "off guard", on how things ended with the San Jose Sharks. He wished they could of ended things on better terms.
Evander Kane brought up his former San Jose teammate Joe Thornton, who's now with the Florida Panthers.
Evander Kane said this to Kayla Grey on Joe Thornton,
"Joe Thornton was the first call I got. I had a nice chat with him for probably like 20 minutes, and it was nice to hear from a guy like that and have his support. I knew Jimbo a little bit off the ice prior to us becoming teammates and from the moment I landed in San Jose, he was the first face I saw. We had a very very close relationship when we were teammates in San Jose."
«He was a guy that I was always excited to see every day and I think he felt the same way about me, and we had a lot of banter but we both loved that type of thing. It was a great relationship and I'm glad it continues even though we're not teammates anymore.»

On the same day Evander Kane's interview with Kayla Grey, Sportsnet's hockey insider Elliotte Friedman shared some more on Evander Kane's interest reporting the Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals were the two teams that showed the most interest in Kane.
Elliotte Friedman would say this on his 32 thoughts podcast,
«Florida was in it, Tampa was in it and then they pulled out, Calgary was around it but I don't know how serious, Carolina too was a team that was in it for awhile.»
In his in-depth interview with Grey, Kane did admit that Oilers captain Connor McDavid reached out to him in the process of speaking with teams about a new contract. McDavid was not however the only player who got in touch with Kane.
«There were plenty of guys that reached out, that I had great conversations with. It was nice to hear. It means a lot when you have star players, Hall of Fame players, guys that are breaking records reaching out to you and then them wanting you to be part of their group and their team, and to give them an opportunity to have success.»
Evander Kane didn't reveal to Kayla Grey any other players that contacted him. But we know from previous reports that the Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid also reached out to him and, it's believed this is the main reason he chose the Edmonton Oilers.
