Kent Hughes has a big decision to make in the next few hours when he has to offload a player to comply with the 23 contract limit when Evgenii Dadonov returns tomorrow.

According to the latest information obtained by the journalist Renaud Lavoie, Hughes will submit forward Rem Pitlick to waivers this afternoon.

François Gagnon of RDS had written about this and added details about the potential decision of the Habs' GM to sacrifice the number 32 forward in his lineup.

"After an excellent training camp and quality preparatory games with Jake Evans, Pitlick had a slow start to the season. He was even left out of the lineup. Pitlick is not attracting any more attention from other players who are likely to be traded at the moment. The fact that clubs aren't scrambling for his services could lead the Habs to believe that he'll be passed over if he's traded.

Unlike Pezzetta. If he is passed over, Pitlick will go to Laval to help the Rocket and will be better suited to do so than a veteran like Dadonov or Hoffman who would go backwards. And that's if he agrees to go. Which is not a given. -François Gagnon

He also points out that Pezzetta would be likely claimed, while Pitlick does not seem to attract the attention of other NHL teams.

Pitlick was not at morning practice today.
