Nick Robertson Linked to Seattle Kraken in Trade Proposal, per NHL Reporter
A potential deal for the Toronto Maple Leafs has them moving the surging Nick Robertson out west to the Seattle Kraken, as laid out in one new report.
After a difficult start to this season for Nick Robertson, who struggled in producing in a full-time spot after a lengthy RFA holdout with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Over his 2024 season, he has just two points in 23 games, but found a groove as of late with six points in his last five games.
A new report from ESPN's Rachel Doerrie gives a potential trade option for the Leafs to possibly upgrade on Robertson.
Doerrie has the Leafs trading Robertson to Seattle in exchange for forward Yanni Gourde:
"Yanni Gourde would fit perfectly as their third-line center; he forechecks well, can kill penalties and contributes offensively.
When Berube won the Stanley Cup in St. Louis, Tyler Bozak was the third-line center; Bozak was a solid two-way center who possessed similar qualities to Gourde (who won the Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning)."
Gourde, 33, has five goals and 15 points in 35 games with the Kraken this season.
Does Robertson for Gourde make sense for both sides?
Doerrie makes the argument for a Gourde for Robertson deal and why it fits for both Seattle and Toronto.
"Toronto's current situation sees Max Domi in this 3C spot. Moving him to the wing alongside John Tavares and Matthew Knies is an option.
Meaning a third line of Bobby McMann, Gourde and the newly physical Max Pacioretty could provide the forechecking, tough-to-play-against combination that Berube prefers." Gourde is a hard-working player, but he is 5'9, and GM Brad Treliving prefers to add size to his team, as was the case when he managed the Calgary Flames.
Although Treliving has had small players on his teams in the past, he may opt to go with a bigger option on offense if he wants to improve down the middle.
Doerrie also mentions that Toronto would have to make another move with Gourde's cap hit, making $5.17M until the end of this season.
On Seattle's end, moving Gourde seems like a strong possibility as the Kraken sit just outside the playoff picture. Moving Gourde could kickstart a change for Seattle.
On the surface a deal between Seattle and Toronto involving Yanni Gourde for Nick Robertson make sense, it's about if it's what both teams want with their future and if they can make it work both on and off the ice.
