Kevin Bieksa Calls Zdeno Chara Out on Live TV
When Zdeno Chara appeared on the Julien Edleman podcast, he revealed one of the craziest stories of his career, the motivation for the Bruins' comeback in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.
After losing two games in Vancouver, we saw players from Vancouver coming on the ice in the Garden, and they were actually practising how they would be lifting the Cup and handing off the Cup to each other. And we found out about these things and we were like fuck this, we are not going to allow this to happen.' It just fueled us.
This angered Canucks fans, and several alumnae of the winning class. One of the alum, Kevin Bieksa, called out Zdeno Chara on this statement - which he confirmed to be false.
One of the dumbest things we've ever heard clearly and we all work with Elliotte, right? So that's saying a lot, but I don't think I have to spend a whole lot of time discrediting that this didn't happen because logistically. It's impossible, right?
You think about all the media that's their covering the finals and all the competitiveness to fight trying to find some story different than the other person. Clearly, somebody would have reported about that or had a camera. And even Chara walks it back a little bit of this comments from, we saw them in the Garden, to we heard to, we believe we heard.
Yeah, so, you know, originally like upset about it to hear because it's a little bit of an attack on our character, as a team, and an organization. But also our leadership group and you're talking about three first ball at Hall of Famers in the Sedin's and Luongo, to Malhotra, Hamhuis and myself, to think that we would allow something like that to happen.
Let alone participate in is disappointing, coming from a guy like Chara you just, you would expect more and maybe a little bit more of a mutual respect that he wouldn't repeat a like that. So I think like the main emotion I have right now is just disappointed in them.
Clearly Bieksa won't tolerate this mockery of the team that he holds so close to his heart.
