Maple Leafs Looking to Acquire Western Conference Defenseman!
The Maple Leafs' defensive corps has been uninspiring this year. Their supposed #1, in Morgan Rielly has had consistently brutal defensive performances, and their #2, Jake Muzzin, is out with an injury.
Muzzin's injury causes a serious issue for the team, as Justin Holl is proving to not be worthy of an NHL spot, and depth pieces such as Victor Mete and Filip Kral aren't ideal for the NHL.
With this considered, the Leafs have been linked to Seattle Kraken defender Carson Soucy.
Soucy is on an expiring deal that pays him $2.75-million annually, and moving a player like Justin Holl would facilitate this move to happen. Soucy isn't the most dynamic player in the world, but he is very dependable defensively, and that is all the Leafs really need to fill the hole of Jake Muzzin.
Other more exciting names like Jakob Chychrun and Erik Karlsson have been brought up, but it's unlikely the Leafs will be in a position salary-cap and asset-wise to make a blockbuster trade.
