New Bombshell Indicates That the Vancouver Canucks Tried Desperately to Get Bruce Boudreau to Quit
It is all but guaranteed that Bruce Boudreau will be replaced as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks today.
It was a messy process, but a new bombshell has indicated that it could have been even messier.
The terms of Boudreau's contract include a clause for a second year, where he could have either taken or forgone the job.
If he had quit as head coach, the Canucks wouldn't have had to pay him, but now that he is fired, they will.
They will have three head coaches on their payroll, Boudreau, the newly hired Tocchet, and the former Green.
Relevant info for this Canucks mess. If the Canucks didn't keep Boudreau, they would still need to pay him, meaning they would be paying for three head coaches in 2022-23 (Travis Green, Boudreau, new guy). I'm guessing they tried to avoid that by getting Boudreau to quit.
So, it looks like the Canucks made life hell for Boudreau in hopes he would quit. Unfortunately for them, he is a very strong-willed man.
