According to TSN business expert Rick Westhead, athletic events in Ontario may be in peril due to an increase of Covid cases, notably the Omicron version. Dr. Andrew Morris, an infectious disease expert, told Westhead that the Omicron variant might reach 10,000 cases every day by the end of the year.
Dr. Andrew Morris feels this may be coming to an end. Dr. Morris believes the Ontario government will soon have to re-close NHL and NBA games to the public.
"Government has no choice," said Dr. Morris as per Westhead.
This will also have an impact on the National Hockey League, given both the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs are headquartered in Ontario. Dr. Morris did not address how this would affect other teams' travel plans or player restrictions.
Dr. Morris is not alone in his views, according to Westhead, who did not provide any numbers or names or qualifications.
