On Thursday morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau poked fun at the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans, bringing up the team's previous playoff defeats.
«I'm just amazed at how hope continues to spring eternal in Leafs fans,» Trudeau said. «As a Habs fan I'm kind of in admiration of Toronto fans who continue to cling to hopes year in and year out. It's impressive to see. If the unthinkable does happen and we're all wonderfully surprised to see the Leafs in the Stanley Cup Finals, I know there will be ways to make sure everyone gets to watch.»
While Trudeau is hopeful the Canadiens will get past the Leafs in the first round, most don't see that being the case. As of now, Toronto leads the North division with 77 points, which is five points more than the second place Edmonton Oilers, and 19 points more than the Habs. It is always said that playoffs is a new season, and there certainly is some truth to that, but the Leafs are playing very well leading into the postseason while the Canadiens have lost five straight.
