A report has emerged linking Toronto Maple Leafs star forward William Nylander to the Western. According to HockeyBuzz, known for their many sensational rumors on league news, the new Eklund rumor is that Nylander, a UFA at the end of the season, could end up in the West, with the Anaheim Ducks a potential suitor for the winger.
Teams talking directly to agents about signings before free agency is usually not allowed, but if such a rule is disallowed in-season isn't known, but seems unlikely. An agent speaking to an opposing team about a player signing somewhere else almost surely would violate the NHL's CBA on tampering.
Eklund, who's real name is unknown, claims the NHL got permission to talk to his agent, but no reports have confirmed this claim as of the writing of this article. Although currently without a deal with Toronto, reports have indicated Nylander is happy with the Leafs and focusing on the season.
William Nylander would undoubtedly fit the Ducks roster, who are looking for a star winger to push their young group of talented players into playoff contention.
In 32 Games, Nylander leads the Leafs with 30 Assists & 46 Points, tied for 4th in the NHL on the season, along with 16 Goals. Nylander, making $6.9M this season, is coming off career highs last campaign with 40 Goals, 47 Assists & 87 Points.
