With news that Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price had waived his no movement clause for the Seattle expansion draft, speculation as been on fire online about the motive behind it. Some light had seemingly been shed on that situation Sunday when Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff broke the news that Price is dealing with a hip injury and that the severity of it was thought to be serious enough that he could require surgery and miss the start of the season, if not all of 2021-22. However, another report seems to conflict that.

"Told that Carey Price is scheduled to see a doc in New York this week regarding a knee issue which could potentially lead to surgery," said Seravalli's former TSN colleague Pierre LeBrun. "The hope is that it's not too serious."

"As Frank Seravalli reported, I also believe Price will have his hip checked out," LeBrun continued. "But the potential surgery I'm told is knee related."

If LeBrun is accurate, this would not be the first time Price has had issues with one or both knees. A collision with Chris Kreider of the New York Rangers during the playoffs in 2014 led to Price having knee surgery and some speculation that he was not playing at 100 percent for quite a while after. Price also dealt with injuries during this past regular season before his spectacular playoff performance that was a huge factor in getting Montreal to the Stanley Cup Final. However, the team was very tight lipped on exactly what he was dealing with.

The bottom line is that the Seattle Kraken may be willing to deal with Price missing some time in order to get a goaltender of his calibre. We'll know for sure some Wednesday. LeBrun tweeted earlier Sunday that he didn't think Seattle would end up selecting Price, although he felt the chance was higher than when the announcement first came that the netminder had waived his NMC.
