Ron MacLean Under Fire for Tasteless Comments on Pride
Ron MacLean certainly isn't the most well-liked person in the industry, and for good reason. His recent comments were truly distasteful, and fans aren't happy.
MacLean Under Fire
During yesterday night's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, MacLean brought on Penguins president of hockey operations Brian Burke.
Burke is a vocal proponent of the Hockey For Everyone movement, which has received some tough blows in the past few weeks.
While Burke made some great points about these players only being a minor setback to a movement making progress, and clarified what pride night really is, which is a show of acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community, and nothing more.
MacLean, who is clearly disconnected from the movement, decided to bring up replacement theory, with comments that shocked fans.
Canucks journalist Daniel Wagner made his thoughts clear:
Hey, so Brian Burke was great in that intermission segment on Pride Nights...
...but can we talk about Ron MacLean casually suggesting that we need to find a "compromise" and "middle ground" with replacement theory, which is a white supremacist conspiracy theory?
MacLean also opted to bring up Aristotle's philosophies, which is both literally and figuratively an outdated reference to ever use for a modern discussion.
The issue is pretty clear cut, but give it to MacLean to embarrass himself and others on the broadcast.
Thankfully there are voices like Brian Burke in the league to keep things moving in the right direction.
