Tied for first in the Western Conference, this team looks better than it has in years. Genuine superstars have emerged in Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, Miro Hesikanen, and Jake Oettinger, and veterans Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are playing some of the best hockey of their careers.
This, tied with one of the best prospect pools in the league, featuring Wyatt Johnston, Logan Stankoven, Mavrik Bourque, and Lian Bichsel, makes the Stars an incredibly exciting team.
Today, general manager Jim Nill fuelled the fire of excitement with a big announcement. Veteran superstar Joe Pavelski signed a one-year extension with the Stars, that will carry a shockingly low $3.5-million cap-hit. The deal will come with performance bonuses that can be deferred on the salary cap to the following season.
Pavelski, at 38-years-old, is playing the best hockey of his career. He completes one of the NHL's best lines with Robertson and Hintz, and he put up a career high 81 points last season.
If Pavelski can keep up his play, while the young core of the team continues to improve, it is not out of the question that the Stars compete for a Stanley Cup in the next few years.
