Jeff Marek hints at the NHL adopting more face protection
It is a right of passage when a junior player steps onto professional ice from the first time.
Apart from the obvious joy of finally making it, they are no longer required to wear a full-face protecting helmet.
Whether they opt for the cage or the fishbowl, it's never fun to be so constricted. Unfortunately for them, the NHL could very well be imposing full-protection helmets as a requirement.
Jeff Marek reported that the NHL could opt for this in order to reduce face injuries. In theory this is a great idea, but it's hard to imagine players would be completely on board.
Marek speculates that the NHL could someday enforce full face shields in an attempt to lower face injuries.
