The Sabres oppose the operation since it has never been performed on an NHL player, and GM Kevyn Adams feels fusion surgery is the best choice.

Dreger: "Clarifying the conversation on the podcast regarding Jack Eichel. There was no consensus among the doctors Eichel saw on the west coach specific to disc replacement. However, league sources say the Sabres remain strong in their position the best option is fusion surgery.''

If Eichel fails his physical this week, the Sabres can place him on injured reserve or long-term injured reserve.
