Valentin Rodionov made 10 appearances for MHC Dynamo. On November 21st, he fainted on the bench after a line change and was rushed to hospital. What happened is unclear. Rodionov was reported to have hit his head on the ice during a fight. Some say he was hit hard in the boards and collapsed on the bench.
Rodionov had surgery due to cerebral edoema and a brain contusion (bruising). His team stated after the operation that his life was not in danger and that they would cover all medical expenses, so no fundraising was required.
Doctors tried for six days to save Rodionov's life, but he died on Saturday.
"We send our condolences to Valentin's family and friends. This is a big loss for the Dynamo hockey team. We mourn with you "So said Rodionov's team.
He was only 16 years old.
