Kenny Albert of FOX Sports, MSG Networks, and NHL on TNT released the sad information
After starting his career in the QMJHL, Reggie Savage participated in nine games. After earning 329 points in 185 games and being selected in the first round, he really made the selecting process easy.
Savage played 34 NHL games between the Capitals and the Nordiques in the four seasons that separated 199091 and 199394. Savage was never able to hold down a spot on the NHL roster. Though he was one of just five NHL players to score his first goal on a penalty shot, he only finished with 12 points in his NHL career.
With 220 points in 212 games at the time, Savage was a dominant force in the AHL, so it is quite surprising that he was unable to land a long-term NHL job. He played a little bit more in the AHL after failing to enter the NHL before moving to Italy and Switzerland to play in the IHL. After that, he continued to play a little bit in the AHL and UHL until spending his final season (200405) playing 17 games in the ECHL.
