On Sunday night, ESPN's Emily Kaplan reported that the Blackhawks discreetly fired the Rockford IceHogs' head athletic trainer. The trainer, D.J. Jones, was fired when a member of their ice crew accused him of sexual harassment some years ago. The victim has not been named.
The person who submitted the lawsuit apparently came forward the day after the shocking Jenner & Block exposed, possibly inspired by former Chicago Blackhawks player Kyle Beach's own testimony. We're pleased to report that the Blackhawks acted quickly in this case, taking the allegations seriously and quickly investigating the matter before dismissing Jones.
"Recently, when allegations of sexual harassment in 2014 by D.J. Jones, the head athletic trainer for the Rockford IceHogs, were reported to the Blackhawks on October 27, 2021, we adhered to our new protocols and procedures, suspended Mr. Jones, conducted an in depth investigation over 5 days and, following the conclusive results, terminated Mr. Jones on November 3, 2021," said the team in a statement as per ESPN.
