It's been quite the hockey journey for Edmonton's Zach Hyman. Drafted in the fifth round by Florida in 2010, he found himself in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey after being acquired for minor league player Greg McKegg.
After a successful six seasons in Toronto, the team neglected to re-sign him and he signed with Edmonton where he's been ever since.
He hit the 50-goal plateau and has quietly become a key factor in the Oilers' recent domination.
But now his success had led him to have some outside business opportunities, and is making a big time deal to acquire an OHL team.
But where there's smoke, there's always fire.
In a report early on Friday morning, CHCH News; a Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara-focused news station, posted on X confirming that Zach Hyman's family has struck a deal with Michael Andlauer; the owner of the Brantford Bulldogs in order to buy the team from him.
It's unclear if Hyman himself will be the one who will make the choices or if it falls into the hands of his father Stuart, with more information on Monday regarding the sale.
The Bulldogs moved to Brantford in 2023 due to their original home, FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario undergoing renovations.
The team planned to add a $140-million arena and sports complex which would have not only kept the team in Brantford, but generated nearly $5M in additional revenue.
Those plans are on hold as the future of the team's location is unclear.
It's quite possible that the team heads back to Hamilton, where Hyman is no stranger to playing. In his youth, his father purchased the Hamilton Red Wings, where Zach earned his skills.
His father at one point owned over 90 minor hockey teams of varying ages, skills, and locations, but rescinded ownership after a league investigation over two decades ago, and still remains a polarizing figure for how he influenced his son's journey to the NHL.
