Frank Seravalli issues an apology to the Blue Jackets and the Gaudreau family after insensitive comment

Today Frank Seravalli came under fire for a comment he made involving Johnny Gaudreau in an article previewing the 2025 NHL Draft.

Controversy has surrounded Frank Seravalli and The Daily Faceoff after an article written by the well-respected journalist. In the article, Frank Seravalli discussed the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft lottery. He revealed that he believes that the Columbus Blue Jackets will win the lottery. However, when talking about the team he made an insensitive comment about Gaudreau and his impact on the Blue Jackets season.

This led to outrage from the NHL community. Of course, everyone is still feeling the profound impacts of the loss of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau after their passing. Fans were hoping the article would be taken down, but instead, Frank Seravalli changed the wording to a different phrase, which many fans still deem to be offensive.

Now a few hours after the incident involving Frank Seravalli, he has issued a statement talking about what happened.

In a post on X, Frank Seravalli broke his silence on his article and why it was written in the way it was. In the statement he apologized to the Gaudreau's and promised to do better going forward.

While the apology was of course needed the statement still was made in an article and likely approved by one or more individuals beyond Frank Seravalli before being posted. The frustrating lack of respect for the Gaudreau family and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Beyond the initial statement is the fact the article was edited several times and still referenced the Gaudreau brothers 'looking down on' the Blue Jackets in the version that currently exists.

With the NHL season on the horizon, there is set to be a mass amount of support for the Gaudreau family from the NHL. This will include every team in the NHL wearing a number 13 patch to honor the Gaudreau brothers. The NHL's tribute will come after Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's home arena was named in honor of them. The rink will host the Philadelphia Rebels of the NAHL.

As the day goes on The Daily Faceoff and Frank Seravalli have continued to receive backlash for leaving the article up. In the aftermath of the passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and co-workers who continue to work through all of the emotions that come with such a tragic loss.
