According to new reports, Jeff Marek was just the first of many Sportsnet employees to lose their job this summer.

Marek was infamously let go by Sportsnet earlier this week after nearly a month of speculation about his status. The last 32 thoughts episode came a month ago to the day, and there have not been any episodes of the Jeff Marek Show either. Now we know why.

After 13 great years at Sportsnet, I'm moving on. It's been an incredible journey and I'm thankful to have worked alongside so many great people and played a role in bringing sports and hockey news to fans across Canada and the world. More to come soon.
- Jeff

It appears as though Marek leaving the network was just the first in a series of moves. He will likely be the most visible move made by the network as Jeff Marek is well known and regarded throughout the league. However, dozens more employees could be set to lose their jobs behind the scenes, which does not bode well for the network as a whole.

While NOT connected AT ALL it appears that Jeff Marek's exit from Rogers SN could have come just ahead of what sounds like another round of "changes"/cuts/layoffs for the media company.

That being said, according to this report, Marek being fired has nothing to do with the upcoming round of layoffs.

I'm saying layoffs appear to be coming & what happened with Marek had nothing to do with any upcoming yet to be announced changes

Regardless, fans are not thrilled about what is going on with the network. After all, Marek was host of 32 thoughts, the most popular and important podcast in the hockey world. It is not easy to replace someone in a position like that.

No Marek on Sportsnet is genuinely going to suck. My most listened to show was 32 Thoughts, followed by the Jeff Marek show. This business sucks sometimes.

What will the future hold for Sportsnet? That is hard to say, but it is not looking too good at the moment.
