Toronto Maple Leafs eyeing Pavel Buchnevich from St. Louis Blues
While it may not be apparent on paper, the sentiment in Toronto is that to make it further in the playoffs, they'll have to beef up at forward.
With the salary cap always at play, it is appealing to acquire a player with term at a reasonable cap-hit. Names like Travis Konecny and Lawson Crouse have been thrown around, but it appears the Leafs have set their eye on a different skilled winger.
Pavel Buchnevich was acquired way under market-value from the New York Rangers as they couldn't afford to keep him. In his time with St. Louis, he's scored 114 points in 111 games.
As a point per game player, his $5.8-million cap-hit is a true bargain. It will ease the pain of likely losing William Nylander due to the salary cap. Adding a superstar forward line Buchnevich could be what puts the Leafs over the top.
It wouldn't be cheap, but if Kyle Dubas could pull this off, it could be a franchise-altering move.
