It wasn't long that winger Walker Duehr spent on waivers, as the 27-year old power forward was quickly snatched up by the San Jose Sharks.
Duehr, an undrafted free agent from Minnesota State has played sporadically for the Flames this season, registering zero goals, one assist and a minus-6 in 16 games. He was also the first South Dakotan to sign an NHL contract, making a bit of history in the process.
The 6'2, 210 pound power forward will be able to bring some much needed size and get more chances to play on a rebuilding Sharks team that could be extremely dangerous in a few years.
Duehr's best season came in 2022-23 where he scored seven goals and added four assists, 55 hits and had two game-winning goals, showing he has a bit of a clutch factor if given time to play.
Duehr is a free agent at season's end and doesn't cost much on the cap at only $825,000 and will offer the Sharks a chance to get a good look at him and possibly extend him for the next season or two.
We will just have to wait and see if San Jose is able to reap the benefits of Duehr and prove to Calgary they shouldn't have been to keen to let him go.
