BREAKING: Bunting delivers a headshot to Cernak and is ejected from the game.
Leafs Forward Michael Bunting has been called a match penalty for an illegal hit to the head of Lightning Defenseman Erik Cernak, who left Game 1 vs Toronto.
In the second period of game 1 of the first round, Bunting was called for a five-minute major for the hit, and may face further disciplinary action. Cernak, who was injured on the play, headed to the locker room.
Both Cernak and Bunting had been heated before the incident. Tampa had already lost Victor Hedman to the Locker room, and Cernak is the Lightning's second casualty on D of the night.
It's unknown what will happen next, but Bunting has already been a critic of the NHL's refereeing, and now faces a possible suspension, and with Cernak potentially out, both sides now face serious concerns heading into game 2.
