On Sunday, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Seattle Kraken in a decisive victory, with a final score of 5-1.

This win avenged an earlier loss to the Kraken by the same score earlier in January.

The trio of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and Michael Bunting performed exceptionally well in their first game back together, amassing a total of 7 points.

In addition, John Tavares, Mark Giordano, and Timothy Liljegren scored for the Leafs.

It was a nearly flawless performance by the Leafs, but Root Sports, the local broadcast partner for the Seattle Kraken, attempted to spoil their moment of triumph.

As the Leafs surged ahead with a comfortable lead in the third period, the scoreboard displayed two messages:

"Toronto Maple Leafs last playoff series win: 2003-04"

"Toronto Maple Leafs last Stanley Cup: 1966-67".

The commentary team also drew comparisons between the Leafs and other teams, such as the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys, that are infamous for their playoff struggles.

While the messages were technically accurate, they seemed like sour grapes, especially given the context of the game.

For Leafs fans, these jabs are nothing new, and in fact, they bring a sense of joy to see the opposing team upset over their victory.
