The Colorado Avalanche made a trade on Wednesday with the San Jose Sharks. Jacob MacDonald and Martin Kaut left Colorado, while Matt Nieto and Ryan Merkley were acquired by the team.
Recently, many fans would like to see Samuel Girard traded. In 41 games this season, the defenseman has 15 points, including four goals.
With the acquisition of defenseman Merkley, Girard's spot may no longer be secure with the organization.
The Avalanche are one of the teams in the lead to acquire Sean Monahan, Girard could complete that transaction. However, the Habs have a lot of defensemen.
It remains to be seen what will happen in the case of Samuel Girard and if the CH will be interested in his services.
According to @PierreVLeBrun, the Colorado Avalanche are top of the list to acquire Montreal Canadiens center Sean Monahan by the trade deadline. #GoHabsGo
