The Leafs and Flames Have been rumoured to be working a trade out for some time, and now the details of the trade have been leaked, and they are insane.

Leafs Rumoured To Have Paid A High Price For Tanev And Zadorov from the Flames

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been rumoured to be in talks with the Calgary Flames for weeks now regarding a potential trade for Nikita Zadorov and Chris Tanev. The Leafs are in desperate need of defenseman, considering their injury status and the lack of success from newly acquired John Klingberg.

Tanev and Zadorov are highly sought after by nearly every team looking to make a Cup run this year, so their price has been driven up. Now, it has been rumoured that the Leafs have made an insane trade offer for both Zadorov and Tanev.

BREAKING: Deal on the table between @MapleLeafs and @NHLFlames #LeafsForever #flames #zadorov

To Calgary: Abruzzese, Holmberg, Klingberg, two draft picks (including 1st in 2024)

To Toronto: Zadorov (50% retained), Tanev (50% retained)

Insane Trade Quickly Criticised By Fans

The rumoured trade was quickly criticized by fans as being impossible, as it would put Calgary over the cap. Some also criticised the number of draft picks that the Leafs have.

This trade would put Calgary over the cap. This makes no sense. Plus, Zadorov and Tanev aren't worth 2 first round picks.

The Leafs do have their first rounder in 2024. The post doesn't say both picks are first-rounders either. However, that doesn't really matter. The proposed tweet is an insane offer, and while it could happen, most likely won't. This is because the Leafs likely aren't willing to give up their first-rounder next year, along with two of their most promising prospects, for a chance at winning the cup this year.

While a trade is possible, we will see just how much Brad Treliving is willing to give up at a shot to win the cup this year.
