A recent trade has emerged that sees William Nylander get swapped for another Swedish superstar and more.

Trade That Swaps Nylander For Lindholm Emerges

William Nylander is one of the hottest players in the NHL right now. He is coming off a season that saw him score 40 goals and 87 points. He finished 20th in league scoring and proved himself to be among the elite in the NHL.

Due to his performance, he has asked the Leafs for an absurd contract which they are not willing to pay and they are reportedly not close on an extension.

Due to this, a fan proposed trade has emerged which sends Nylander off to Calgary in exchange for Elias Lindholm and a 2025 first round pick.

Toronto's Perspective

Toronto would be acquiring Lindholm who has proven to be a dominant player offensively and defensively. In 2021-22, he scored 40 goals and 82 points as well as finishing as a Selke finalist.

He had a down year last year however posting 22 goals and 64 points but he was playing with worse linemates as Calgary lost Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau. If he were to be paired with John Tavares and Tyler Bertuzzi, he would likely rebound to 2021-22 form.

In addition to Lindholm, Toronto also would receive a first round pick which they could use in a trade to get them another championship caliber asset.

Calgary's Perspective

Calgary would be getting the better and younger of the two players. In addition to this, Nylander would likely sign an extension in Calgary for the right price.

Nylander would also allow the Flames to create a dominant first line of Huberdeau-Kadri-Nylander which would be scary for opponents to play against.

Lindholm has also made it clear that he wants out of Calgary despite them offering to break the bank to keep him around. Nylander is a player they could break the bank on comfortably who will provide more offensively.
