After a messy divorce with the city where he played for eight years, Petry was traded to Pittsburgh last summer for Mike Matheson.
A year later, he's back, but apparently, it won't be long before he's traded again.
Why did he come back? Eric Engles shared the reasons.
Jeff Petry has a 15-team no-trade list, and he's firm about it. He was supposed to be traded to the Sharks, but he refused to go there, and the trade was canceled.
The rest is history. He's now a Montreal Canadien once again.
Do you think he regrets his decision today?
Because of that, the Canadiens are in an excellent position in the market, with Petry and DeSmith on the block.
It seems clear that he doesn't want to play in Montreal. However, he mentioned that he'll "try to turn this into a positive situation" if he's not traded before training camp in six weeks.
The best way he could help the town he called home for so long would be to accept a trade when Kent Hughes asks him.
If Hughes retains a portion of his salary, as he's rumored to, Petry could generate a significant return that could drastically shift the situation to the Habs' advantage.
Do you think Petry will be traded before the start of training camp?
