Reports are flooding in this afternoon that goalie Jacob Markstrom has finally been traded out of Calgary. He will head to the New Jersey Devils who have been searching for a goalie since the season ended.
First put out by Travis Yost the deal has now been confirmed by Frank Seravalli as well.
Further reports have now come in to confirm that Jacob Markstrom will be heading to the New Jersey Devils. In return the Calgary Flames will get young defenseman Kevin Bahl and a 2025 First Round Pick.
Kevin Bahl is a sold defense-first defenseman who has experience at the NHL level and should step in right away for Calgary. The first-round pick will allow the Flames to rebuild their prospect pool as they seem to be heading for a full rebuild.
The New Jersey Devils on the other hand get their franchise goalie they have been waiting for in Jacob Markstrom. Over his 4 seasons in Calgary Jacob Markstrom was fantastic and a key part of their success before the last 2 seasons.
At 34 years old he is near the end of his career as a starter but could be exactly what the New Jersey Devils need to get their team to the next level for now.
This trade will be one that takes a while to evaluate. If the New Jersey Devils can take advantage of the early seasons with Jacob Markstrom they look to be the early favorites to win this trade.
