In an ultimate effort, Matthew Tkachuk dived to stop the puck from going into the net at the last second.
Unfortunately, his teammate Oliver Ekman-Larsson had already quit on the play, and he couldn't stop Connor McDavid from getting to the puck and shooting behind the goal line.
Check out how it went down in the video below:
Tkachuk makes an all-time great goal-line save and Ekman-Larsson just...gives up on the play and lets McDavid score anyway.
With the Stanley Cup in the building, come on man.
Either Ekman-Larsson thought the puck went in, or he didn't see McDavid, but in any case, he shouldn't have quit on the play.
In a crucial game like last night, giving up isn't an option. This play will likely follow Ekman-Larsson and hurt his reputation.
