Friedman Suggests That a Reunion Between the Senators and Erik Karlsson Would Be a Challenge to Make Happen But Is a Real Possiblity
It's been less than a year since Kyle Dubas got Erik Karlsson in a massive three-way trade with the San Jose Sharks and the Montreal Canadiens.
Karlsson's impact in Pittsburgh hasn't matched the high expectations from the fans and the management. Even with great numbers (seven goals, 32 assists and a +8 in 53 games), he hasn't been able to be the difference-maker he was expected to be.
With the Penguins slowly drifting out of a playoff berth, anything is possible, including seeing Karlsson being traded.
Friedman believes that the Ottawa Senators could be interested.
A Deal Between the Pittsburgh and the Senators Involving Karlsson is Possible, but Various Things Will Come Into Account
The Ottawa Senators are definitely not where they'd like to be in what was supposed to be a breakout season for them. Once again this year, they could decide to sell out assets to get top players.
Considering that their top defenseman Jakub Chychrun already mentioned he isn't interested in signing long-term in Ottawa, they could trade him for another defenseman.
However, does Erik Karlsson, at 33, wants to join a team that isn't competing for the Stanley Cup this year?
And if so, will it be in Ottawa, where he already stayed for nearly ten years?
If all of this happens, then we could see him back with the Senators.
